1871 England Census RG10 piece 21, folio 10, page 12

Can anyone make out the "occupation" of 7 yr-old Frederick William Paul,
please? I can't make it out to be anything like "Scholar" or "At
school", which is what one would expect.

Are you sure you have the reference right? I'm looking at a scan of
RG10/21 fo. 10v, which is numbered page 12, and covers 1-5 Hyde Park
Terrace, Paddington. There's no-one called Frederick on the page, nor
anyone with a middle name stated, nor a surname of Paul.

Thanks. I think it says "Medical", faintly crossed out. The father is
listed as a "Medical practitioner", and the son's occupation is clearly
the same as first word of the father's. My guess is that the census
clerk started writing this in the wrong box and corrected himself.

I came to the same conclusion as Richard.

Thank you, Richard & Steven.

Sorry about the reference error - this keyboard has a habit of missing
letters quite frequently and I didn't notice that time.

Whereas this keyboard operator has a habit of missing not only letters
but whole words (such as "not") quite frequently.
