Hi all,
One of my ancestors changed his surname and married the woman who gave birth to his daughter. This daughter took the new surname of her father even though she was registered under his former name.
My cousin and I have been chasing this fellow for about 12 years until just recently when she put in the wife's surname in Birmingham and found the marriage.
We are in the process of purchasing the marriage certificate but was wondering if there was a source we could look at.
My ancestor was Alfred Frederick Esse (b 1868)who had a child with Annie Agnes Gough in 1890 but did not marry then. He married an Ethel Cannon (b 1875) and had two children with her in 1899 and 1900 then he promptly fell off the face of the earth until recently found with a new name.
Alfred also lied about his age by -10 years at the time of his marriage to Annie.
Any advice or information will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and regards,
Di
