I have some family history data which has been archived as SQZ files, I
think by Family Gathering. My current software only imports gedcom files.
Can anyone help in converting?

SQZ are compressed archive files - an obsolete format. They are not
specific to family history, the most common equivalent today is ZIP files.

To use the data you will probably need the original software that wrote it -
though it is possible to uncompress the archive and check out the contents,
which may be in text or some other standard file format and hence readable.

Don't know whether it will work but it's probably worth trying.

If you go to : http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/7017/

There is a program listed called Archive Peek
"Archive Peek is the ideal solution for those who have many file
archives and who can't remember where they keep files. It will look
for files inside ZIP, RAR, LZH, ARJ, ZOO, ARC, TAR, PAK, SQZ, HYP,
WAD, GRP, CAB and ACE files in hard disks, CD-ROMs, floppies,
networks, etc., wildcards allowed. You can display results in 3
different ways. The Windows 95 version also allows you to multitask,
stop searches in progress and print results."

SQZ is the extension used by TMG's backup files. If you want to
mail me your SQZ file I'll have a go at opening in TMG and
exporting as a GEDCOM. It seems fairly clear that not everything
will come through unscathed, and that may be putting it mildly.
Also, I don't know if any other genealogy programs make use of the
.sqz extension.

Try

http://www.powerarchiver.com/

That is a compression program that can handle several different formats,
though I'm not sure if it can handle SQZ.
