The "extended pilot" whereby PDF copies of birth and death certificates
are provided at a discounted price of £6 instead of the usual £9.25
charged for paper certificates has now been running eight months. Has
anyone heard whether they plan to continue it beyond the nine months
originally announced? Likewise, has anyone heard whether there's any
plan to extend it to marriage certificates?

No idea, but each time I order a pdf, I am asked for 'feedback' so I
tell them I will buy a, limited to my budget, amount at £6 a pop, but
will buy a lot fewer at £9.25 a pop and please, pretty please, with
sugar on top, can this be extended to include marriages?
My Granda always told me that shy bairns get nowt :-)

Also, if/when they do, will the search page contain the spouse surname
before the date the current indexes do, in the same way the current ones
show mother's maiden name for births before 1911, and the age for deaths
before 1865?

Look out for #1. Don't step in #2 either.

Read today (not sure how long its been there) on the GRO site:

GRO has been piloting a service providing PDF copies of historical
birth and death records. The pilot, originally extended to July 2018,
has now been extended further to continue to assess longer term demand
and there is no planned end date at this time. Further communications
will be provided in due course.

It's been there for a while. I do like the PDF service, even if it's
still ridiculously slower than it ought to be.

Not sure if you mean the pdf facility has been there for a while (which
I know) or the update that it now has no end date. It was the end date
(in reply to the original query last month) I was posting about.

According to the latest Lost Cousins newsletter
https://www.lostcousins.com/newsletters2/jul18news.htm#GRO
the pilot service has been extended with no planned end date

I'd meant the latter, but could have expressed it more clearly!

Let us hope that one of the next announcements is that they're going to
add marriage certificates. (And, hopefully, add a search facility that
shows spouse names - ideally both - before 1912, in the same way their
present search gives MMN before 1911, and age at death before 1865.)
